What is in the discharge line between the compressor and condenser of an R-407C system?

Refrigeration · EPA 608 Type II. The correct answer, and the reasoning behind it.

Identifying refrigerants, system components and the state of refrigerant in each.

The question

What is in the discharge line between the compressor and condenser of an R-407C system?

  • Low-pressure saturated vapor
  • High-pressure subcooled liquid
  • High-pressure superheated vaporCorrect answer
  • Low-pressure liquid and vapor mix

Why “High-pressure superheated vapor” is correct

The compressor raises the pressure and temperature of the suction vapor. The discharge line carries that hot, high-pressure superheated vapor to the condenser.

Why the other answers are wrong

  • Low-pressure saturated vapor — Low-pressure vapor is on the suction side.
  • High-pressure subcooled liquid — Subcooled liquid leaves the condenser, not the compressor.
  • Low-pressure liquid and vapor mix — A low-pressure mix leaves the metering device.
