The question
A technician adds 45 pounds of R-123 to a 700-pound chiller. What must the technician give the owner when the service is finished?
- A copy of the technician's card, sent on to EPA
- Nothing; the owner keeps all records alone
- A record that includes the amount and type of refrigerant addedCorrect answer
- A reclamation certificate showing the added refrigerant meets AHRI 700
Why “A record that includes the amount and type of refrigerant added” is correct
40 CFR 82.157(b) and (l)(2) require anyone adding or removing refrigerant on an appliance of 50 pounds or more to give the owner a record of the service. It includes the appliance, date, work done, the technician's name, and the amount and type of refrigerant added.

Why the other answers are wrong
- A copy of the technician's card, sent on to EPA — Certification cards are not sent to EPA after service.
- Nothing; the owner keeps all records alone — The technician must provide the service record to the owner.
- A reclamation certificate showing the added refrigerant meets AHRI 700 — Reclamation certificates are not part of the service record the rule requires.
