Evacuation levels for low-pressure appliances, and major versus non-major repairs.
The question
Apart from removing a major component, a repair is "major" if it uncovers an opening of more than how much flow area for more than how long?
- More than 2 square inches for more than 30 minutes
- More than 4 square inches for more than 60 minutes
- More than 10 square inches for more than 15 minutes
- More than 4 square inches for more than 15 minutesCorrect answer
Why “More than 4 square inches for more than 15 minutes” is correct
The definition in 40 CFR 82.152 treats any repair that uncovers more than 4 square inches of flow area for more than 15 minutes as major, even if no major component is removed. Both conditions must be met for the opening alone to make the repair major.

Why the other answers are wrong
- More than 2 square inches for more than 30 minutes — Both numbers are wrong; the regulation uses 4 square inches and 15 minutes.
- More than 4 square inches for more than 60 minutes — The time limit is 15 minutes, not an hour.
- More than 10 square inches for more than 15 minutes — The area threshold is 4 square inches, not 10.
