The question
A laboratory freezer cascade stage uses R-23. Which pressure class is it?
- Very high-pressureCorrect answer
- High-pressure
- Medium-pressure
- Low-pressure
Why “Very high-pressure” is correct
R-23 is one of EPA's examples of a very high-pressure refrigerant, along with R-13, R-503, R-508A and R-508B. Very high-pressure appliances, other than small appliances, are Type II work.

Why the other answers are wrong
- High-pressure — High-pressure examples include R-22 and R-410A, not R-23.
- Medium-pressure — Medium-pressure examples include R-134a and R-12.
- Low-pressure — Low-pressure examples include R-123 and R-11.
