The question

How long must records required under the Part 82 leak repair rules be kept, unless the rule says otherwise?

  • One year
  • Three yearsCorrect answer
  • Five years
  • For the life of the appliance

Why “Three years” is correct

All records under 82.157(l) must be kept for at least three years in paper or electronic form. Full charge records are kept until three years after the appliance is retired.

Source: 40 CFR 82.157(l)

Why the other answers are wrong

  • One year — One year is too short.
  • Five years — Five years is longer than the rule requires.
  • For the life of the appliance — Only the full charge records run past retirement, and then only by three years.
