Leak-rate thresholds, repair deadlines, extensions and records.
The question
A replacement compressor for a leaking 400-pound R-22 commercial system cannot be delivered within 30 days. If the extension rules are met, how much extra time is allowed?
- Up to 30 days after delivery, but no more than 180 days in totalCorrect answer
- Up to 90 days after the parts arrive, with no overall time limit at all
- An automatic extra year from the leak date
- Up to 120 days, regardless of delivery date
Why “Up to 30 days after delivery, but no more than 180 days in total” is correct
When needed components are not available within 30 days, additional time is allowed up to 30 days after receiving them, not to exceed 180 days from the date the leak rate was exceeded. The limit is 270 days if an industrial process shutdown is required.

Why the other answers are wrong
- Up to 90 days after the parts arrive, with no overall time limit at all — The window is 30 days after delivery and is capped at 180 days.
- An automatic extra year from the leak date — No automatic one-year extension exists for repairs.
- Up to 120 days, regardless of delivery date — 120 days is the industrial process shutdown period, not the parts extension.
