The question
Why is a technician allowed to use system-dependent recovery equipment on small appliances?
- System-dependent equipment is allowed on appliances of any charge size
- Small appliances are exempt from recovery rules
- The limit for system-dependent equipment is 50 pounds
- Small appliances hold 5 pounds or less, under the 15-pound limitCorrect answer
Why “Small appliances hold 5 pounds or less, under the 15-pound limit” is correct
Section 82.156(e) says system-dependent equipment may not be used with appliances holding a full charge of more than 15 pounds, unless it is permanently attached as a pump-out unit. A small appliance can never exceed 5 pounds, so it is always under that limit.

Why the other answers are wrong
- System-dependent equipment is allowed on appliances of any charge size — Section 82.156(e) bars it on appliances with more than 15 pounds unless it is a permanent pump-out unit.
- Small appliances are exempt from recovery rules — Small appliances have their own recovery levels in 82.156(b).
- The limit for system-dependent equipment is 50 pounds — The limit is 15 pounds, not 50.
