What recover, recycle and reclaim each mean.
The question
Under 40 CFR 82.164, which requirement applies to a certified refrigerant reclaimer?
- It must return reclaimed refrigerant only to the original owner
- It may release up to 5 percent of refrigerant during processing
- It must test each batch against Appendix A specificationsCorrect answer
- It must hold Type III technician certification
Why “It must test each batch against Appendix A specifications” is correct
Certified reclaimers must reprocess refrigerant to the Appendix A specifications (based on AHRI 700-2016), verify each batch by the prescribed analysis, release no more than 1.5 percent during reclamation, dispose of wastes properly and keep records and annual reports.

Why the other answers are wrong
- It must return reclaimed refrigerant only to the original owner — Reclaimed refrigerant may be sold to new owners; that is the point of reclamation.
- It may release up to 5 percent of refrigerant during processing — The limit is 1.5 percent, not 5 percent.
- It must hold Type III technician certification — Reclaimer certification is separate from technician certification.
