The three Rs · EPA 608 Core. The correct answer, and the reasoning behind it.
What recover, recycle and reclaim each mean.
The question
A technician runs recovered R-22 through a recycling machine on site. Where may that recycled refrigerant be used?
- In equipment owned by the same owner it came fromCorrect answer
- In any customer's equipment
- Only after it is sold to a wholesaler
- Nowhere until a reclaimer tests it
Why “In equipment owned by the same owner it came from” is correct
Recycled refrigerant has been cleaned but not certified to reclamation standards, so it may be reused in equipment of the same owner. If it is to go to a different owner, it must be reclaimed by a certified reclaimer first.

Why the other answers are wrong
- In any customer's equipment — Putting it into a different owner's equipment would require reclamation.
- Only after it is sold to a wholesaler — Used refrigerant cannot be sold for reuse unless it has been reclaimed.
- Nowhere until a reclaimer tests it — Reuse within the same owner does not require reclamation testing.
