Under the Part 82 definition of leak inspection, what else is required?
Leak detection · EPA 608 Type II. The correct answer, and the reasoning behind it.
Signs of leaks in high-pressure systems and leak testing before charging.
The question
A sight glass check and a standing pressure test both show that a 200-pound R-22 system is leaking. Under the Part 82 definition of leak inspection, what else is required?
- Nothing; either check alone is a complete leak inspection
- A method that finds the leak's locationCorrect answer
- A refrigerant analysis by a reclaimer
- A second standing pressure test a week later
Why “A method that finds the leak's location” is correct
Methods that show a system is leaking but not where, such as standing pressure or vacuum decay tests, sight glass checks, receiver levels and charging charts, must be used together with a method that can find the leak's location.

Why the other answers are wrong
- Nothing; either check alone is a complete leak inspection — Those checks show a leak exists but do not locate it, so they are not enough on their own.
- A refrigerant analysis by a reclaimer — Refrigerant analysis says nothing about where the leak is.
- A second standing pressure test a week later — Repeating a decay test still does not locate the leak.
