The question
What is the passing score for a Type I certification test taken in the mail-in format?
- 70 percent
- 80 percent
- 84 percentCorrect answer
- 90 percent
Why “84 percent” is correct
Appendix D sets the passing score for mail-in Type I tests at 84 percent. The higher bar offsets the less controlled testing setting compared with a proctored, closed-book test.
Source: 40 CFR Part 82 Subpart F, Appendix D
Why the other answers are wrong
- 70 percent — Seventy percent is the passing score for closed-book tests, not mail-in Type I.
- 80 percent — Eighty percent is a recovery level, not the mail-in passing score.
- 90 percent — Ninety percent is a recovery level, not a passing score.
