The small-appliance definition and the recovery levels required.
The question
Where can a technician find the date that shows whether a recovery unit was made before or after November 15, 1993?
- On the certification label, which shows the date of manufactureCorrect answer
- On the nameplate of the appliance being serviced
- On the technician's certification card
- On the hydrostatic test date stamped into the recovery cylinder's collar
Why “On the certification label, which shows the date of manufacture” is correct
Section 82.158(h) requires certified recovery equipment to carry a durable label that shows the date of manufacture and the serial number. That date decides whether the pre- or post-1993 small-appliance level applies.
Source: 40 CFR 82.158(h); 40 CFR 82.156(b)
Why the other answers are wrong
- On the nameplate of the appliance being serviced — The appliance nameplate tells you about the appliance, not the recovery equipment.
- On the technician's certification card — The card shows the technician's certification, not equipment dates.
- On the hydrostatic test date stamped into the recovery cylinder's collar — A cylinder's test date has nothing to do with when the recovery machine was made.
