Recovery requirements · EPA 608 Type I. The correct answer, and the reasoning behind it.
The small-appliance definition and the recovery levels required.
The question
A final processor must tell its suppliers that refrigerant has to be recovered before appliances are delivered. How may it give that notice?
- Only by certified mail sent through EPA
- Only by a yearly notice in a local newspaper
- No notice is needed as long as signed statements are collected
- With signs, letters to suppliers, or similar meansCorrect answer
Why “With signs, letters to suppliers, or similar means” is correct
Section 82.155(b)(2)(ii) requires the final processor to notify suppliers that refrigerant must be properly recovered before delivery. The notice may be signs, letters to suppliers or other equivalent means.
Source: 40 CFR 82.155(b)
Why the other answers are wrong
- Only by certified mail sent through EPA — EPA does not deliver these notices; the processor gives them directly.
- Only by a yearly notice in a local newspaper — The rule names signs, letters and equivalent means, not a newspaper notice.
- No notice is needed as long as signed statements are collected — Notification is a separate duty under 82.155(b)(2)(ii).
