The question
In a running system, what is in the liquid line between the condenser and the metering device?
- High-pressure liquidCorrect answer
- Low-pressure vapor
- High-pressure vapor
- Low-pressure liquid and vapor
Why “High-pressure liquid” is correct
After the condenser removes heat, the refrigerant is a high-pressure liquid, usually slightly subcooled. It flows through the liquid line to the metering device, where its pressure drops.

Why the other answers are wrong
- Low-pressure vapor — Low-pressure vapor is in the suction line.
- High-pressure vapor — High-pressure vapor is in the discharge line before the condenser.
- Low-pressure liquid and vapor — A low-pressure mix is found after the metering device, in the evaporator.
