The question
Why should a technician wear gloves and goggles when connecting hoses to a system?
- Liquid refrigerant can freeze skin and eyesCorrect answer
- Refrigerant stains skin permanently
- Gloves keep refrigerant from becoming contaminated
- The rules require them only for flammable refrigerants
Why “Liquid refrigerant can freeze skin and eyes” is correct
Liquid refrigerant boils at very low temperatures once released, so a spray on skin or eyes can freeze tissue and cause frostbite or eye injury. Gloves and goggles (or safety glasses with side shields) protect against this.

Why the other answers are wrong
- Refrigerant stains skin permanently — Refrigerant does not stain skin; the hazard is freezing.
- Gloves keep refrigerant from becoming contaminated — Gloves protect the technician, not the refrigerant.
- The rules require them only for flammable refrigerants — Frostbite risk exists with all refrigerants, flammable or not.
