What leaves the compressor in a working refrigeration system?
Refrigeration · EPA 608 Core. The correct answer, and the reasoning behind it.
The refrigeration cycle, refrigerant states and pressures, gauges and leak detection.
The question
What leaves the compressor in a working refrigeration system?
- High-pressure, high-temperature vaporCorrect answer
- Low-pressure, low-temperature vapor
- High-pressure liquid
- Low-pressure liquid
Why “High-pressure, high-temperature vapor” is correct
The compressor takes in low-pressure vapor from the evaporator and squeezes it into high-pressure, high-temperature vapor. That hot gas goes to the condenser to give up heat.

Why the other answers are wrong
- Low-pressure, low-temperature vapor — Low-pressure vapor is what enters the compressor.
- High-pressure liquid — Refrigerant becomes high-pressure liquid in the condenser, after the compressor.
- Low-pressure liquid — Low-pressure liquid is found after the metering device.
