Who issues the Section 608 technician certification card?

Section 608 regulations · EPA 608 Core. The correct answer, and the reasoning behind it.

Pressure classes, recovery equipment certification, AHRI 700, the sales restriction and the venting ban.

The question

Who issues the Section 608 technician certification card?

  • The EPA regional office
  • The approved organization that gave the testCorrect answer
  • The technician's employer
  • The state contractor licensing board

Why “The approved organization that gave the test” is correct

EPA does not give the test or issue cards. Approved technician certification programs administer the test and must issue a wallet-sized card within 30 days of the test (Appendix D, section f). A lost card is replaced by the organization that certified the technician.

Why the other answers are wrong

  • The EPA regional office — EPA approves the programs but does not issue cards.
  • The technician's employer — Employers can keep records but cannot certify technicians.
  • The state contractor licensing board — State boards are separate from the federal Section 608 program.
