The question

Certified recovery equipment made under 40 CFR 82.158 carries a permanent label. What must that label state?

  • The name and certificate number of the technician who owns it
  • Certification by a named approved testing organizationCorrect answer
  • The refrigerants the owner has recovered with it
  • The date the machine was last serviced

Why “Certification by a named approved testing organization” is correct

Under 40 CFR 82.158(h), certified equipment must carry a lasting label stating that it was certified by the named approved equipment testing organization to meet EPA's minimum requirements, along with the date of manufacture and serial number.

Source: 40 CFR 82.158(h)

Why the other answers are wrong

  • The name and certificate number of the technician who owns it — The label identifies the certification, not the owner.
  • The refrigerants the owner has recovered with it — A log of recovered refrigerant is not part of the certification label.
  • The date the machine was last serviced — Service dates are not required on the certification label.
